Relationship between Physical Activity and Telomere Maintenance in Peripheral Blood Mononucleocytes

چکیده
Shortened telomere length and decreased telomerase activity have recently been associated with perceived psychological stress and cardiovascular disease risk factors. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between exercise energy expenditure (EEE) and telomere length, telomerase activity, and hTERT genotype. Sixty-nine male (n = 34) and female (n = 35) participants 50-70 yr. were assessed for weekly EEE level using the exercise component of the Yale Physical Activity Survey. Lifetime consistency of EEE was also determined. Subjects were recruited across a range of EEE levels and grouped according to EEE (0-1000, 1001-3500, and >3500 Kcal/wk). Relative telomere length and telomerase activity were measured in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Consistency of physical activity was the only covariate in the final model and relative telomere length was significantly higher in the Middle EEE group compared to both the low and high EEE groups (p<0.05; means ± SE relative T/S ratio; low = 0.93 ± 0.06, n=17; Middle = 1.10 ± 0.05, n=30; high = 0.94 ± 0.06, n=19). Telomerase activity was not different among the three EEE groups. An association was observed between telomerase enzyme activity and hTERT genotype with the TT genotype (1.02 x 10-2

The effect of high intensity interval training on telomere length and telomerase activity in non-athlete young men
Introduction: Telomeres are DNA portions that are located on the two ends of the chromosome. Telomeres play an important role in cellular life. Exercise is one of the factors that contributes to their control. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on telomere length and telomerase activity in non-athletic young men. ...

Introduction: Inadequate physical activity is one of the causes of fat disorders and regular physical activity is one of the important factors in correcting fat disorders. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity levels and blood lipids as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Methods: This analytical cross sectional study was conducted using the in...

Telomerase play a key role in the maintenance of telomere length and chromosome integrity. We have evaluated the association between telomerase activity and the risk of lung cancer in peripheral blood. Telomerase activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was measured by a PCR-designed telomeric repeat amplification protocol in 63 lung cancer patients and 190 healthy controls that were matc...
متن کاملTelomere length in lymphocytes of older South Australian men may be inversely associated with plasma homocysteine.
Deficiencies in folate (FOL) and vitamin B12 (B12) result in increased chromosomal aberrations, a validated biomarker of cancer risk. Telomeres, the regions of DNA that cap the ends of each chromosome, are critical for maintaining chromosomal stability but the impact of micronutrients on telomere structure and function remains unclear. We hypothesized that telomere length maintenance might be c...
متن کاملAssociation of Telomere Length with Breast Cancer Prognostic Factors
INTRODUCTION Telomere length, a marker of cell aging, seems to be affected by the same factors thought to be associated with breast cancer prognosis. OBJECTIVE To examine associations of peripheral blood cell-measured telomere length with traditional and potential prognostic factors in breast cancer patients. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data collected before surgery f...
